We hear it all the time. And honestly, it makes complete sense. Most people aren't used to having a camera pointed at them, let alone on one of the most emotional days of their lives.
But here's what we've learned after three decades of doing this: beautiful wedding photos have almost nothing to do with knowing how to pose. The images couples treasure most, the ones they can't stop looking at years later come from something much simpler. Connection. Comfort. A moment that actually felt real.

Let me be honest with you right from the start...
In 36 years of photographing weddings, I can barely recall a single half day coverage that truly gave a couple everything they wanted. That's not a sales pitch. That's just the truth, and I think you deserve to hear it before you make one of the most important decisions of your wedding planning journey.
So let's talk about it. Really talk about it.

The Biggest Mistake Couples Make
The most common mistake I see? Couples convince themselves they have enough time to get all the photos they want, and they simply don't.
It sounds simple, but it catches people off guard every time. You picture the moments you want. The portraits. The family photos. The quiet shot of just the two of you. And they all feel possible, until the day actually arrives and the clock starts moving faster than you ever imagined.
That gap between what you think you can fit in and what actually happens when the day unfolds, that's where regret lives.

Where Does the Time Actually Go?
Here's what a typical wedding day looks like from my perspective.
I arrive two to three hours before the ceremony. That time is spent documenting the getting ready moments, the nervous excitement, the laughter, the quiet in-between moments that end up being some of the most treasured photos in the album.
Before the ceremony, I like to do a first look, a private moment where the couple sees each other for the first time. It's one of my favorite parts of the day.
Then comes family portraits, about 45 minutes. Bridal party photos, another 45 minutes.
And we haven't even gotten to the ceremony yet.
After the ceremony, I'm capturing the details of the reception room, the energy of cocktail hour. Then the reception itself, and this is where the magic really happens. Parent dances. Toasts. Cake cutting. Dancing. Tears. Laughter. The kinds of emotions that hit you when you least expect them and mean the most when you look back 20 years from now.

You can't manufacture a parent dance twice. You can't recreate the look on a father's face when he sees his daughter for the first time. Those moments happen once, in real time, and my job is to be there when they do.

Here's What I Ask Couples Who Are Considering Half Day Coverage
When someone comes to me leaning toward half day coverage, I ask them one question:
"Do you really think you'll have enough time to get all the photos you want without feeling rushed?"
That question alone usually does the work. Because when couples actually picture the day — really walk through it hour by hour, they start to see how quickly the time disappears.

So When Does Half Day Coverage Actually Make Sense?
It does exist. And in the right circumstances, it can work beautifully.
The ideal candidate for half day coverage is a couple having a smaller, more intimate wedding, typically 50 guests or fewer. Fewer guests means fewer family groupings, a more relaxed pace, and a day with less ground to cover.
If that sounds like your wedding, it's worth a conversation.
But if you're planning a full celebration with a large guest list, a separate ceremony and reception venue, or a long list of must-have photos... please, give yourself the time you need.

What About Budget?
I understand that budget is real. I've been working with families for 36 years and I know that every dollar matters.
I will always do everything I can to take care of my clients. I'm willing to have a conversation and find a way to make things work. But I also can't give my service away, because when I show up for your wedding, I am fully, completely, 100% there for you.
Which brings me to something I want you to know.

I Don't Watch the Clock. I Watch the Moments.

I stay until the story is told.

One Thing I've Heard That Stuck With Me
Over the years, I haven't had many couples tell me they wished they had booked more coverage. But I have heard couples say they wished they had more time between the ceremony and reception for photos.
That's the thing... it's not always about booking more hours. Sometimes it's about planning your timeline smarter. Giving yourself breathing room between the big moments so you're not rushing from one to the next.
If you're in the planning stages, talk to your photographer early. Work through the timeline together. Make sure the day is built around the photos you want, not the other way around.

My Advice, After 36 Years
If I could leave you with just one thought, it would be this:
Give yourself enough time to enjoy your photography — and your day.
Your wedding day moves fast. Faster than you think it will. And the photos you're left with are the only way you'll ever get to go back.
Don't shortchange that.

The Cake Was So Sabrina

There's a moment at every Bat Mitzvah when you stop and look at the cake, really look at it and think: yes, that is exactly that kid.
That moment happened with Sabrina.
Her cake wasn't just beautiful. It was exciting in the best possible way. Bold colors, unexpected details, the kind of design that makes you smile before you even know why. It walked into the room with the same energy Sabrina did like it had somewhere to be and couldn't wait to get there.
We've photographed a lot of B'nei Mitzvah celebrations over the years. A lot of cakes. And the ones that stick with you aren't necessarily the most elaborate or the most expensive. They're the ones where you can close your eyes, look at the cake, and picture the kid.
Sabrina's mom told us the design went through a couple of revisions not because anything was wrong, but because Sabrina kept having better ideas. We believe it. The final result had her fingerprints all over it, in the most literal and figurative sense.
When we photographed it, before the candle lighting, before the dancing, before the evening became a blur of joy and motion we made sure to get every angle. The close-up details. The full reveal. The moment Sabrina first walked over to it and her face did that thing faces do when something is exactly right.
That photo might be our favorite from the whole night.
Because here's what we've learned after 36+ years of photographing these celebrations: the cake isn't just dessert. It's a portrait. It's the first thing guests photograph and the last thing they talk about on the way home. It's a collaboration between a family and a baker that somehow, when it works, captures a human being in sugar and fondant.

There's a moment in every beach engagement session where something shifts.
The couple stops thinking about where to look or what to do with their hands — and they just are. That's the moment I wait for. And when it comes, I don't say a word.
This is one of those moments.
He crouched down in the sand — no direction from me, just something he did — and she wrapped her arms around him like she's done it a thousand times. Because she has. The waves came in. The wind moved her hair. The ring on her finger caught the last of the evening light.
I pressed the shutter.
That's the thing about beach sessions that nobody tells you: the beach itself does half the work. You can't be stiff when you're barefoot on warm sand. You can't be formal when a wave is threatening to crash behind you. The environment loosens people up, and what comes out of that is something no studio backdrop can replicate — it's them, unguarded.
The footprints around them in this frame? Those are from 45 minutes of walking, laughing, stopping, starting, and figuring out what felt natural. By the time we got here, they'd forgotten I was even there.
That's exactly what a great engagement session should feel like.

What to Wear for Your Engagement Photos (NJ Edition)

Choosing what to wear for your engagement session is one of those things that sounds simple until you're actually standing in front of your closet trying to figure it out. Don't overthink it. The goal isn't to look like a Pinterest board — it's to look like the best version of you.

After photographing couples across New Jersey for nearly 36 years, I can tell you: the outfit rarely makes or breaks a session. But a few smart choices can absolutely make a difference. Here's what I've learned.

Dress for the Season — NJ Has All of Them

One of the things I love about shooting here is that we actually have four real seasons, and each one gives you something beautiful to work with. The key is letting your wardrobe complement what's happening outside, not compete with it.

Spring is soft, fresh, and full of natural color — blooming gardens, green parks, that perfect in-between light. Light pastels (blush, sage, soft blue), flowy fabrics, and a light layer or two tend to photograph beautifully. One thing I'd steer you away from: super bright neons. There's already a lot going on in spring scenery, and bold colors can pull focus from your faces.

Summer is all about comfort. Whether you're shooting down the shore or in a sun-drenched field, breathable fabrics like linen and cotton are your best friend. Light colors reflect the heat and keep you looking cool — literally. For beach sessions, keep it relaxed and casual. Going barefoot almost always looks natural in the sand; a ball gown, less so.

Fall is — and I say this as someone who's been doing this a long time — genuinely hard to beat. The light is golden, the foliage is stunning, and the whole season just photographs well. Earth tones (rust, mustard, olive, deep red) feel at home in fall surroundings. Layer up: jackets, scarves, knits. Textures read really well on camera this time of year.

Winter sessions are more special than people give them credit for. There's a quiet, romantic quality to them that's hard to replicate any other time of year. Neutrals — cream, camel, gray, charcoal — look elegant against a bare winter landscape. And if we happen to get some snow? That's just a bonus.

Coordinate, Don't Match

You don't need to wear the same color or go full "matchy-matchy" — and honestly, I'd encourage you not to. Instead, think in terms of a color palette: two or three tones that feel connected without being identical. Mix textures. Let one of you take a slightly bolder direction while the other complements. It looks more natural, and it photographs better.

Dress for Movement

Here's something people don't always think about: you're not going to be standing still. We're going to walk, laugh, probably spin around at least once. Before you settle on an outfit, ask yourself: Can I sit comfortably in this? Can I move the way I normally would? If yes, you're in good shape.

A Few Things I'd Steer Clear Of

Large logos and busy graphics tend to pull the eye away from your faces. Neon colors can overwhelm everything around them. And anything you find yourself constantly adjusting — a strap that slips, a hem that rides up — will show. If you're not comfortable, it comes through.

The Bottom Line

The best outfit is the one that makes you feel like yourself. Confident, comfortable, at ease. Because these photos aren't really about what you're wearing — they're about the two of you, and everything you're feeling in this moment of your lives together.

Fifteen Years...Two Milestones...One Amazing Family

Some relationships don't need an introduction the second time around.

In 2009, I walked into Beth-el Synagogue to photograph a bar mitzvah. The young man of the hour was Adam — a 13-year-old with a kind soul, a great sense of humor, and a whole life ahead of him. I did what I always do. I showed up, I paid attention, and I tried to capture not just the moments, but the feeling of that day.
And then fifteen years went by.
I got a call from Adam's parents. No shopping around. No "we're considering a few photographers." Just a phone call, and a question — are you available April 7th, 2024?
Their son was getting married.
That call meant everything to me. Not just as a booking, but as a statement. Fifteen years earlier, they trusted me with one of the most important milestones in their family's life. And when the next one came around — the biggest one — they didn't hesitate.
On April 7th, 2024, I walked into Temple Emanu-El and watched that 13-year-old kid stand at the altar and marry Liat.

Some venues are beautiful. The Ashford Estate is in a category all its own.

Nestled within the preserved farmland of Central New Jersey just outside the storybook Allentown Village, The Ashford Estate was designed to give couples a destination wedding feel without leaving the state.

You approach by crossing an antique steel bridge, passing through ion-guarded iron gates, and travelling down a dramatic crushed stone drive lined with beautiful pine trees...then the estate emerges.

As a photographer, I can tell you the arrival alone is worth capturing!

The 30+ acres includes a Barn Chapel, Carriage House, and a Grand Ballroom, along with waterfalls, a floating gazebo, garden arbors, stone ruins and gorgeous fountains.

What to know : this venue rewards couples who give themselves time to explore the grounds. Build portrait time into your timeline! You will have images that look like they were taken on a European Estate.

A Few Things Every Couple Should Ask Before Booking Any Venue

After years behind the lens, here’s what I always wish couples would ask:

Does the venue host more than one event at a time? This affects everything — the staff’s attention, the energy of the space, and whether your day feels truly yours.

What does the light look like at the time of your ceremony? I’ve photographed ceremonies in spaces that are stunning at noon and challenging at 4 PM. Ask your photographer to walk the venue with you before you commit.

Is there a private space for portraits? The best venues have quiet corners, garden paths, or secondary spaces where we can steal 20 minutes for just the two of you — and those 20 minutes often produce your favorite images of the entire day.

What are the venue’s restrictions on photography? Some venues limit where you can go, especially during dinner service. It’s good to know that before your wedding day.

There's a moment I think about often.
Bryan and Dara didn't want a traditional wedding session. They wanted their story — and their story happened to live on the water. The wedding day started somewhere wonderful, the port in Weehawken. The old train station with the kind of vintage character you can't manufacture. Then the port... where the Manhattan skyline spread out behind them like something from a dream. We moved to their own boat, the two of them and the Hudson, completely in their element. By the time we reached the Chart House for their ceremony and reception, the day had built into something that felt inevitable — like every frame was exactly where it was supposed to be.

Place Is the Third Person in Every Photo

We're lucky to work in a state that doesn't get nearly enough credit. The Jersey Shore in the off-season is hauntingly beautiful — empty boardwalks, golden light, the smell of salt air. The Palisades offer dramatic cliffs and sweeping river views. Cape May feels like stepping into another century. Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton is unlike anywhere else — art and nature layered together in a way that makes every corner a discovery.
And we're close to so much more. An hour north puts you in the Hudson Valley, with its farms, forests, and that particular fall light that photographers travel from everywhere to find. Cross into Bucks County, Pennsylvania, and you're in cobblestone streets and covered bridges. Head up to the Connecticut shoreline or the Catskills and you have entire landscapes that feel untouched.
