Grooms, Fog, and a Little Bit of Movie Magic
There's a moment on every wedding day that has nothing to do with the ceremony, the vows, or the first dance, and yet it's the one that ends up stopping people in their tracks.
Last weekend, we were at The Bradford Estates, and caught that moment with the groom Mohammad and his crew.
Picture it: a covered stone walkway, patio heaters glowing on either side, and a thin curtain of fog rolling in off the lawn just as the late afternoon light broke through the trees. The groom, sharp in a three-piece with a burgundy tie leads the way, his groomsmen falling in step behind him in tan suits and newsboy caps, looking less like a wedding party and more like they just walked off a movie set.
We didn't stage the fog. We didn't stage the light. We were just ready for it.
That's the part of wedding photography people don't always think about... it's not only about posing everyone and getting the smiles right (though we do plenty of that too). It's about watching. It's about knowing that five minutes from now, the light is going to hit that walkway just right, and being in position when it does.
Every wedding has one of these moments waiting to happen. Sometimes it's fog on a porch. Sometimes it's golden hour on a golf course, or a surprise downpour that turns into the best photos of the day. Our job is to notice it before it's gone.
